I am becoming more consistent in taking notes for all the books I read, no matter how small, so that I can look them up, remember parts of them and make connections.

2024
- I contain multitudes by Ed Yong
- The graveyard book by Neil Gaiman
- Immune: A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive by Philip Dettmer
- Genre: Science
- Verdict: One of the best science communication books I have read 🤓
- My summary: Through the book, I got a good understanding of how the immune system works, the key players and the complex interactions between them that manage to keep intruders into our body at bay. The author manages to tread the fine line of distilling the key concepts while instilling a sense of awe about the crazy complexity about the workings of the immune system. I can confidently say that this book has changed how I view the world.
- My notes: 2021_Dettmer - Immune
- The limits of my world by Gregory Coles
- Genre: Science fiction
- Verdict: I thoroughly enjoyed the book!
- My summary: It shows how much language and culture dictate our thinking, and that care has to be taken to ensure both of them are open to change and growth. It shows an extreme case scenario where a constrained language and rigid culture can give rise to a declining civilization with no curiosity or a sense of purpose. Very 1984-esque book.
2023
- Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
- Genre: Science fiction
- Verdict: A brilliant book - highly recommend it!
- My summary: The author uses some really brilliant ideas to weave a fascinating story about a person waking up in a coma, piecing together his identity based on physical evidence and flashes of memory to figure out how he is supposed to save the entire human race!
2022
- Exhalation by Ted Chiang
- Genre: Science fiction
- Verdict: A brilliant book - highly recommend it!
- My summary: The book contains several brilliant short stories, each set around an interesting idea/concept. Each story makes you think deeply, and sometimes allows you to glean more about yourself.
2021
- How to take smart notes by Sönke Ahrens
