My cheatsheet for Affinity designer.

Color for designs:

Simple stuff that you may forget:

  • Drawing a line: use the pen tool and chose line in one of the action menu options (the top bar that changes for every tool). You can choose curve to get a curved line etc (easy to use).
  • Changing curves (like circles, rectangles): use the Node tool and click on the object. If you can’t see individual nodes, change the object into a curve - the nodes should now be clickable. Select a node and use the action menu options (the top bar that changes for every tool) to delete specific ones.
  • Joining curves: Use the move tool to sell all the curves. Then use the node tool and select the nodes you want joined (using shift to select multiple nodes). Then use the action menu options (the top bar that changes for every tool) to join these nodes.
  • Color picker tool in affinity: click and hold the eye dropper tool and drag to the color you want to be picked by the dropper.
  • Insert inside selection: Use layers to order the individual components. If you some components inside the other, you can choose an option called “Insert inside selection” (top right bar in blue along with two more options).
  • Linking files: In order to link files instead of embedding them (which is the default), go to File → Document setup → Image placement policy and set it as prefer linked. That way, you can place files, and when you update, go to View → Resource manager and update them to the latest version.
